21st & Lehigh is a combination of two of my biggest passions: baseball and American history. I started this blog as a tribute to the 1915 Philadelphia Phillies' run to the World Series. I also wanted to infuse each post - and the series - with what was going on in the United States and Philadelphia at the time. I really want readers to feel like they're transported back to the early 20th century - watching the game in the stadium or discussing the teams on a street corner - to appreciate how important games were to communities and entire cities.
About Mike
I am a proud alum of the Pennsylvania State University with both my undergraduate and graduate degrees in American Studies. My master's research focus on museum and preservation studies, with a specific interest in sports culture and the Civil War. While in graduate school I was able to intern at the National Civil War Museum and work with the Curator on two "In Their Footsteps" education and fundraising events: On the March and an historically accurate (and working!) bread oven.
I live with my girlfriend in Southeastern Pennsylvania - sandwiched between Trenton, NJ and Philadelphia, PA. This area is chock-full of historical sites and societies - a lot of my free time is spent exploring local sites and artifacts.
